  • 5.0 out of 5 stars from Bill Gable, Bristol VA -- A serious look at Biblical metaphor : Mari Joerstad in this book has presented us with a new way to envision and use religious metaphor. Ubiquitous metaphor in the Bible is often viewed as merely a quaint poetic embellishment of literal descriptions of place, movement and intention. That, according to this researcher/author, results in a truncated understanding of basic religious concepts, such as "heaven and earth" and... "God". Particularly noteworthy is Joestad's discovery of an expanded definition of "person". Are there non-human persons in the Bible? The answer is: yes. How do they regard human persons? The answer is: not always so kindly. How might these answers help us interact with the life of planet Earth? Highly recommended for clergy, astute laypersons, and environmentalists.
